What is Microsuction?

Microsuction is an ear wax removal technique using a small suction tube to gently remove the ear wax. The binocular operating microscope worn by the Microsuction practitioner allows depth perception and magnification of the ear canal. Before starting the ear wax removal, the practitioner will look inside the ear canal to determine whether or not Microsuction is required. For best results, olive oil should be used prior to the Microsuction procedure to soften the ear wax.

Why Microsuction?

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (2021) recommend Microsuction if ear wax removal is indicated. Microsuction can only be performed by healthcare professionals who have undertaken specific Microsuction qualification.

Hi there, Im Catherine. Fully Qualified Nurse, Specialist Community Public Health Nurse and Microsuction Practitioner. I qualified as a nurse in 2013, as a health visitor in 2018 and as a Microsuction Practitioner in 2022! I am a member of the Nursing and Midwifery Council and the Royal College of Nursing. I offer a professional ear wax removal service from my home/or at your home. Some people are unlucky enough to suffer from a build up of hard ear wax which can leave them with impaired hearing and/or discomfort. As a practice nurse, I see a lot of ears and I have realised the need for ear wax removal in the community.
